4 Popular Beauty Myths Busted

4 Popular Beauty Myths Busted

4 Popular Beauty Myths Busted

By Michelle R Roberts

There is absolutely no dearth of myths when it comes to beauty, fitness, health, nutrition and weight loss. I believe they are as integral to mankind as superstitions, but they differ from the latter in that it's difficult to hazard a guess on how they originated.

I guess we needn't worry our heads with things like that and simply focus on debunking these myths with a foundation of solid facts. Our role is to prevent these myths from perpetuating themselves. If we can do that, we can consider our jobs done. So, pass on the good word, my man!

Myth #1: Sitting with your legs crossed will cause varicose veins

Nope, they won't. And, they won't cause spider veins either. On the other hand, standing for long periods can give you varicose veins. When you stand too long, the vascular network has to work overtime to pump blood from the legs up to the heart. In case the valves that channelize the blood flow in one direction within the vessels aren't functioning properly, it can cause the blood to pool. Result? Varicose veins. So, cross your slender legs all you want; just don't stand around for too long.

Myth #2: When you shave, the hair that grows back is thicker and darker

Not true. Shaving does nothing to change the density, color, or width of your hair. If you look at the structure of a strand of hair, it is wide at the base and narrow at the tips. Shaving cuts hair at the base, causing the widest part to grow out. This causes the hair to look thicker. But there isn't any real change in the texture of your hair.

Myth #3: Apply petroleum jelly on your face and keep wrinkles at bay

Hate to break your heart, but there isn't much truth in this either, even if it was part of Marilyn Monroe's beauty routine. Petroleum jelly may be the strongest moisturizer known to us but it cannot prevent aging. The best it can do is force the oil into the skin and keep it from evaporating. However, as your skin ages, it is unable to retain moisture as it used to. Petroleum jelly softens the lines by adding moisture to the skin; thereby making them less visible. But, it won't turn the clock back for your skin.

Myth #4: Brush your hair vigorously for a healthy shine

Vigorous brushing of the hair does more harm than good. If fact, gentle brushing is recommended by hair experts. Brushing your locks gently distributes the natural oils from the scalp all the way to the hair shafts, thus making them shine. It also stimulates flow of blood to the scalp and removes impurities adding to the overall health of your hair. Now you know what to do to keep your crowning glory healthy.

Ways In Which Eye Makeup Remover Helps You Oxygenate Your Facial Skin

Ways In Which Eye Makeup Remover Helps You Oxygenate Your Facial Skin
Ways In Which Eye Makeup Remover Helps You Oxygenate Your Facial Skin

Author: Bettye

The naughty words in eye makeup remover circles are many. Ingredients not so good for the skin or eyes are Sodium laurel sulfate (SLS), Paraffin, glycol, Mineral oil, Toluene, and several others. Look them up on the Internet to know what to avoid when shopping for your product. The good guys are usually made in two forms, creme and liquid, and can both contain oil, and perhaps they won't. Either formula will be okay to use. Try them both and see what works for you.

A great positive side effect of using products to take off makeup on the eyes is the super moisturizing and conditioning that takes place. Lashes and delicate skin in that area suck up these beneficial ingredients. If lashes, especially, are cleaned up, there should be no more mascara residue finding itself into your eye.

Most shadow formulas are non-comedogenic, leaving skin pores free of clogging. Eyeliners are in the same category, especially liquid liner. It does not rub off or smudge as many pencil liners do, so must be physically removed. Contact wearers will be pleased with no dreaded residue from makeup ending up irritating the eyes. Even those who wear glasses after removing contacts, may find no smudged glass from old mascara.

No matter how late a woman returns home, before retiring, she is well advised to take off that old makeup. Remove it from the skin as well as the eyes and eyelashes. Get into this routine and stick with it for healthy skin. Foundations, blushes and shadows can do much damage by remaining on the skin for extended lengths of time. Never leave it on overnight. You start out with skin you were born with, then have skin you created, finally ending up with what you deserve.

There may be times that using your normal cleaning products is inconvenient or actually impossible. If one runs out of the cleansers, at least grab a few baby wipes of the unscented type and proceed gently. Skin care manufacturers also furnish wipes specifically for that purpose, for quick little freshen-ups. Blotting off an overabundance of skin oils is important to those who have that issue.

In times when you may run out of everything at once, using a few handy products, mixed appropriately, can do in a pinch. Baby oil, baby shampoo and water is one such mixture. Of course, many women keep extra product on hand, so they will not run dry, so to speak. Having a trick or two up your sleeve, will help keep your skin happy. These are temporary fixes.

If those simple ingredients are not available to you, try equal parts of canola oil, extra-virgin olive oil and castor oil, mixing well. Applying with cotton rounds, cotton balls or squares, and using gentle motions, will suffice.

Most any household organic-type oil could be used, with care, but there is still nothing like the special, carefully formulated commercial eye makeup remover products one can purchase. Lashes and delicate tissues around the eyes can be replenished with oxygen easily without the extra burden of mascara and eyeshadow on them.

How To Look Beautiful For A Date

How To Look Beautiful For A Date

Author: Roberto Sedycias

First, you want to make sure that you wash your hair. That is essential and you want to do that sometime in the morning of the date. You can wash your hair with shampoo and use a good conditioner as well, so that you can have soft and sleek hair for your date, and it is important you do this or else you won't be able to manage your hair or arrange it in any style and everything will be ruined. So, make sure you wash and dry your hair and then brush it fine and free of tangles. Once it is freed, you want to think of what style you want to do. For a first date, it might be good to straighten your hair.

Curls will be too glamorous and keeping it sleek and straight will also help you feel very calm and put together. So, straighten your hair and keep yourself feeling intact with a sleek and smoothed look. You can use some barrettes if you want and some clips but leaving it down and smoothed will be the best way to appear confident and beautiful for a first day.

Next you want to do your make up in a way that will make a bold statement but won't disguise you too much. This means, don't do too much to alter the natural composition of your face. You want to make sure that you look pretty but also like yourself, so use natural shades of eyeshadow, like gold and peach and shades of white shimmer, but do not overdo the eye make up with things like dark blue or black colors, and then you want to keep the lips bright and juicy, so that when you talk they will tempt your date somewhat. But you don't want to use a very vibrant lip shade because then you risk getting it on your teeth and embarrassing yourself. One way to avoid this is to coat your teeth with a layer of petroleum jelly, this will keep the lipstick off and also will give your teeth a bit of a sheen as well so that when you laugh it will catch the light and give you a very glamorous appearance.

Once your make up is determined, you can easily figure out what to wear. Anything goes at this point, as far as colors go, you can wear a basic black dress which no one can ever really go wrong with, or you can wear a color that really suits you, like pink or rose or red or green, but try to avoid really flashy type outfits, unless you are going to a disco or some kind of costume party, because you want nothing to distract from you specifically. You want to be the one that commands his attention and his desires, not what you are wearing and do not wear anything too revealing. It is important to hide the goods, not just for the sake of mystery, but because you want to put forth an impression of self respect.

Author: Roberto Sedycias

This summer is the perfect time to buy that fresh, fruity, or floral scent you have been waiting try. Whether you long to smell like a bouquet of flowers or like the ocean breeze, one spritz of these new fragrances will conjure up the delicious smell of summer. Also, learn how to make your perfume last all day and night.

Laugh Often by Reese Witherspoon for Avon is a soft blend of citrus peels, white and green tea, and pink peony. It is a light and airy scent that is perfect to wear on a hot and humid summer day. Burberry Summer is a citrusy mix of orange, mandarin, and green leaf. It smells crisp and clean and is neither too sweet nor too girlie. Untitled by Maison Martin Margiela conjures up a light grassy scent. Made with lentiscus, galbanum, boxwood, and incense, this scent begins fresh and dries down to a powdery finish.

Emilio Pucci Vivara Varianzioni Verde 071 is a soft green scent with a floral base of Turkish rose and neroli bigarade which balances out the sharp notes of mint leaves. Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Toit is an indulgent fruity scent that is not too childlike. It combines notes of apples and pear with magnolia for a fresh scent that is not too sweet.

Cranberry Splash by Marc Jacobs blends cranberries with red currant for a light yet vibrant fragrance that is perfect for day and night occasions. Guerlain Aqua Allegora Jasminora is a heady and beautiful scent that transports you to a garden by an ocean. The bergamot and white musk balance out a strong jasmine note. It combines bergamot and kumquat with a rose base and osmanthus for a playful scent that will make you want to throw on your lightest and brightest sundress.

Issey Miyake L'Eau D'Issey Summer Fragrance is a fresh marine fragrance inspired by the ocean. With notes of rose and pear water, this fragrance is crisp yet still feminine and pretty. One Summer by Calvin Klein smells like a sea breeze. Blended with tangerine and lemon, a spritz of this fragrance will make you feel like you're sipping seaside cocktails on the beach.

As the weather heats up, summer soirees begin, and beach getaways are planned, it gets harder to make the scent of your perfume to last all day. Here are some tips to keep you smelling pretty all day without having to wastefully spray yourself throughout the day. First make sure that your skin is thoroughly washed prior to applying anything. Before applying your fragrance, apply a body lotion or cream with the same scent as your fragrance. This will make the fragrance itself last longer without it being too strong or overwhelming. Identify your pressure points and ensure these are moisturized. The most common areas are your wrists, your neck, and behind your knees. Allow the moisturizer to be fully absorbed by your skin. Spray your perfume across your body, making sure to cover your pressure points for maximum staying power.

Leonor Greyl's Cult Summer Classic goes Organic

The iconic LEONOR GREYL certified Organic PALM OIL

“Healthy and glamourous hair using natural products” has been LEONOR GREYL’s motto since its creation in 1968. Far more than a declaration of intent, healthy and gorgeous hair using natural products is the approach chosen by Leonor and Jean-Marie Greyl, and which their daughter Caroline and her husband Tom continue to follow with enthusiasm.

During the 1970s, when the concept was still quite abstract, LEONOR GREYL demanded natural treatments and formulas in her Institute and for her products. At the time the hair treatments were quite radical, not too concerned with the aesthetic aspect and with solutions often resulting from chemistry. LEONOR GREYL was a forerunner and a visionary. It’s nature which enables her and which will always enable her to be the exclusive benchmark Brand in the world of hair care.

LEONOR GREYL products have always respected the environment. The philosophy of this family business, since its creation, rests on a scrupulous selection of all of its supplier sources in order to offer its clients around the world high quality, effective, innovative natural ingredients for outstanding quality. LEONOR GREYL has always favoured nature’s most precious, intimate secrets to treat, repair, beautify and make hair gorgeous.
This pioneering Brand was the first ever to use the healing properties of palm oil and has been using them to protect hair since 1970.

Although LEONOR GREYL already used organic quality Palm Oil, faced with numerous controversies surrounding the intensive cultivation of palm trees and their damaging effects on the environment, LEONOR GREYL now stamps the bottles with “100% organic palm oil”. It is therefore an organic quality palm oil that the Brand currently favours, harvested in a region in Colombia where its production poses no threat to the environment.

Focus on Organic PALM OIL

By definition, organic farming favours cultivation methods, which preserve or increase the organic matter in the soil. Collected in Colombia, the Palm Oil used by LEONOR GREYL observes the fundamentals of respect for life and biodiversity.
Since its beginnings in 1970, this organic plantation has preserved the trees on the land, and is against all deforestation, partial or total.

The one, the only, incomparable LEONOR GREYL PALM OIL

PALM OIL is our best friend for summer! Made from 97 % natural oils, PALM OIL is amazingly softening and regenerating. Its “Holiday” aroma is already a journey. It’s the best and a true friend to hair exposed to the sun, the ideal partner to protect it and insure the beauty of all hair exposed to UV, wind, salt, chlorine...or any summer pleasure!

PALM OIL says yes to everything!

Yes it protects against the sun and UV rays, yes it “body guards” hair against chlorine in swimming pools, yes it transforms our hair into mermaids’ locks in the sea, yes it protects, yes it softens, yes it repairs our fabulous hair.

PALM OIL is sexy!

PALM OIL is a sexy beauty secret which is passed from generation to generation, from mothers to daughters, between sisters, among friends. This oil evokes sensuality, the heat on the sun on your skin, like a drop of luxury. True luxury, having time to yourself, deciding to pleat your hair or tie it up with a nicely tanned hand, twirling it around your fingers and inventing a new style each day.

PALM OIL insures!

PALM OIL protects our hair against all types of damage: colouring, lightening, brushing, straightening, sun, swimming.
Completely vegetal and certified ORGANIC, it congeals, whatever the climatic conditions under 77 degrees Fahrenheit, creating a soft, but impenetrable protective barrier. It isolates the hair by forming a protective film, nourishing and repairing, impenetrable to water and filtering UV rays.

Professional advice

The morning before going to the beach:
On dry hair, apply to the lengths and ends before combing or brushing through to coat all the hair. Leave it on all day, touching up if necessary by rubbing a small dot between the palms of your hands and reapplying to the hair. For long hair, part in the centre before splitting the hair into two pleats or pull the hair up high at the back and plait tightly or even a pretty ponytail. For a chic ponytail: once the hair is in a ponytail, take a small lock of hair and wind it around the band and fix in place with a hairpin.

An improvised French pleat? Beautiful using a chopstick from a Chinese restaurant.

For short hair, PALM OIL defines the boy crop and disciplines the most rebellious hair.
For a surprising feminine touch draw the hair and wear large decorated earrings.

Party time

The real refinement is washing the hair in the evening. PALM OIL washes out very easily with a single shampooing, allow it to dry naturally and reapply PALM OIL, using it as a styling product. It must be applied gradually, rub it into a few locks at the side and allow them to fall back to create a “messy” glossy effect.

How to Keep your Skin Hydrated

How to Keep your Skin Hydrated

Author: Charlotte Bleasdale

Many people suffer from dry skin, whether on the body or, more commonly, on the face. We put our skin through a lot and expose it to all sorts of things so it's really not surprising. If you're finding stubborn dry patches hard to shift, here are some easy ways to help your skin back to its lovely smooth condition.

Skincare tips:

  • Wear sun cream (or foundation with SPF) all year round to protect yourself from the damaging and drying effects of the sun.

  • Drinking alcohol and caffeinated drinks can have a drying effect on the skin so try and cut down on these or cut them out completely of you can – at least for a spell.

  • Drink plenty of water instead – aim for around 8 glasses a day. If you find this tricky, keep a large bottle on your desk and you'll be surprised how easy It is to get through. Keeping it at room temperature rather than icy cold also makes it easier to consume.

  • Although it's good for your insides, water actually has a drying effect on the outside of your skin as it can rinse away your skin's natural oils. Hot water is the worst culprit for this, so if you can keep showers cool or warm rather than piping hot. Also make sure you wear gloves when you're doing the washing up.

  • Avoid washing with harsh soaps, especially on your face. A moisturising shower cream will be much gentler and replenish some of your skins natural oils.

  • Add a splash of oil to your bath to lock in moisture and nourish your skin. Natural oils like olive or almond are very effective and also inexpensive. These can also be applied to in a thin layer to damp skin when you get out of the shower.

  • Dry your skin gently with your towel in a patting rather than a rubbing motion. Dry skin is more easily irritated and rubbing vigorously can lead to rashes.

  • When you're thoroughly dried off, apply moisturiser to your whole body. Your skin is an organ so it's best to treat it holistically. You may wish to apply a more greasy ointment to problem patches, particularly before bed.

  • Exfoliating with a scrub is a good way to remove any patches of flaky skin that cannot be restored with moisturiser alone. Don't do this more than once or twice a week though and avoid completely if your dry skin patches are itchy at all as scrubbing will only irritate it further.

  • Try eating plenty of oily fish and nuts, or failing that take a vitamin E supplement or cod liver oil.

Fake Tan: It's Easier Than You Think

Fake Tan: It's Easier Than You Think

Author: Charlotte Bleasdale

If you've got milk bottle legs and are longing for a golden glow – don't fear the fake tan! Getting it right is easier than you think. Use it for a special occasion or do it at home to save money you'd spend at the salon.

Follow these three easy steps and you'll be looking chic and sun-kissed in no time.

Prepare your skin

Getting your skin ready for your tan is almost as important as the way you apply it and a step that women are often tempted to skip. We're not talking a last minute moisturise here! Here's how to do it properly.

The first step is to get your legs hair free so the tan goes on smoothly. Do this well in advance of when you plan to apply the tan – at least 24 hours before if you're shaving, or two days if you're waxing. If you do it too close your pores will be open and will collect the tan.

Next, use an exfoliating scrub all over your body to remove any dry skin. Give plenty of attention to extra-dry bits such as your elbows, knees, ankles and heels. This will make your skin extra smooth, allowing the tan to glide on easily. It will also prolong the life of your tan as you won't be applying tan to old skin that's due to be shed any naturally anyway.

The final preparation step is to moisturise all over, using more in those problem dry spots. Don't leave this until the day of your tan as it will stop the tan from sticking.

Applying your tanning product

Choose a shade of fake tan that's appropriate for your skin tone to get the most natural look. Whether you prefer spray, mousse, cream or gel is really down to a matter of personal preference so why not try a different one each time until you find your favourite? If you're new to fake tanning, a moisturiser with fake tan is a good place to start as you can build your tan up slowly and you can't really go wrong as it's so light.

Fake tan can stain your clothes, so just before bed is the best time to apply it. You can then pop an old pair of pyjamas on and give your tan plenty of time to develop overnight. Even so, you'll need to waist at least ten minutes before wearing any type of loose clothing.

Apply your fake tan with your hands, or if you're worried about them becoming too stained, wear latex gloves or a tanning mitt.

It's best to start applying at your feet and work up, or vice-versa. If you're worried about applying it to your face, try a special facial tanning cream that's more gently, or dilute ordinary fake tan with a little moisturiser. If it comes out lighter than you'd like you can always wear bronzer – better too light than too dark when it comes to your face.

If you've decided not to wear gloves you'll now need to thoroughly wash your hands. You can then add a light layer of tan to your hands (removing all jewellery first), blending very carefully between your fingers and at the wrists.

For a deep tan you can reapply up to three times, but make sure you allow you're tan to fully develop before adding a second coat or you could end up more tanned than you intended. You'll need to avoid having a shower or a bath for at least eight hours after you've put your tan on, and try to avoid water generally for at least three.

Maintaining your tan

To prolong the life of your tan and keep it looking its best, make sure you moisturise every day. After five days or so, exfoliate lightly to get rid of any dead skin and to ensure your tan does not go patchy as it fades. To keep your tan topped up, you can reapply your fake tan on the day of exfoliation.

Ways to Stay Beautiful on a Budget

Ways to Stay Beautiful on a Budget

By Rebecca Sebek

Believe it or not, most women won't skimp on their beauty routine whether the economy's up or down. However, if you're the frugal type, you can stay movie star ready on a budget! You can still buy your beauty products if you know how to shop. You don't have to spend $300 on the latest beauty product to look and feel beautiful. Sometimes spending less is more!

Ways to Stay Beautiful on a Budget

Use coupons. If you're not clipping coupons, you're allowing money to fly out of your wallet at a rapid pace. Many beauty companies like Revlon, Cover Girl, Maybelline, L'Oréal, and others offer coupons within your local paper or online. Their products are just as good as the more expensive brands. Sometimes, they're better than high end products.

Take advantage of sample beauty packs. Sometimes it's better to 'try' a product before you really buy it. Some beauty brands offer sample or trial sizes of their products. This is a great way to see if the product works for you without having to purchase the 'real' thing.

Trim your own bangs and ends. This may scare some women, but you can trim your own bangs. You can buy salon scissors for $20 or less that will do the job. Cut your bangs when they're dry. If you cut them when they're wet, you may cut-off too much. You can cut your ends the same way. Take small sections and make sure everything is even. Don't take too much off!

Get your haircut at the local beauty school. Believe it or not, some people are 'natural' hairstylists. While they may not have 10 or more years of experience, you may be pleasantly surprised at the amount of talent out there. Take a chance and see what the local school has to offer.

Purchase your clothes from a vintage or consignment shop. If you know how to shop and what to look for, you can find terrific bargains on designer labels. The only drawback is that you may have to go through racks and racks of clothing to find what you're looking for. The time spent is worth it if you can score some fabulous deals. You'll look good and your friends will want to know your secret to finding great clothes!

It's possible to stay and look beautiful no matter the state of your or your country's economy. You don't have to sacrifice not looking good because you may not be earning what you used to three years ago. You just need to become creative. In fact, you could probably start a business and teach others how to look beautiful no matter the economy. With the money you save, you'll be able to pay off any credit card debt you have or go back to school. It's a win-win situation!

5 Simple Skin Care Tips For Teenage Girls Wearing Make Up

5 Simple Skin Care Tips For Teenage Girls Wearing Make Up

Author: John Burrow

Skin problems is one of the major health problems that teenage girls have to deal with. At a time where your looks really matter a lot its important that you look your best. Bad skin can affect more than your social life. Although it should not, it does tend to affect self esteem and the way you feel about yourself. While there are certain things, like hormones, that you cannot do anything about the vast majority of skin issues is within your control and you can do something about it..

Make up can have a great influence on your skin and the health of your skin. For many young girls its something new on their skin and sometimes the reaction can be negative - especially if there are chemicals in the products. With that in mind, here are 5 simple tips to help you stay healthy and keep your skin clear and beautiful.

1. Try to always buy make up and skin care products that are made from natural products. Chemical based products are usually much cheaper but they tend to be much harsher on your skin and can often lead to skin problems.

2. Always test new make up before you use it. Use a bit on your ear lobes or under your chin and leave it for a few hours to see how your skin reacts to it. This is important when you try out new products for the first time and even when its "safe and natural" you should still test how your skin will react to it.

3. Always check the expiry date of any product you buy. This also means that you should use it before the expiry date. There is a good reason why products expire and usually its because they are no longer safe to use after that date. Often time when products are on sale they have a short shelf life left, so be careful.

4. Never apply too much make up - especially when your skin is prone to zits and acne. Sometimes it seems like a good idea to cover up bad spots but too much make up can actually make this problem worse.

5. Always clean your face properly before you go to bed. Make up can irritate your skin and you need to allow your skin enough "breathing time" while you are sleeping. Make sure you clean is off completely with a good facial cleanser.

There was a time when for women over 50, it meant end of beauty and best days! They stoically embraced the great signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin and dryness. But with advancement of science is every field, and also rediscovering the ancient wisdoms of our grandmothers, today there are both natural and medical ways of preventing the skin from turning our worst enemy once we turn 50. Skin care has become easier that before; but it is only effective when done with utmost care and regularity.

When you reach the age of 50, you have to take care of skin in two ways; first you have to prevent further damages or limit the damages due to aging, and also turn some if not all the damages that already has happened. At this age our skin loses elasticity and moisture in a much greater speed and cell turnover also slows down. That is why women over 50 need products that are very proactive in working so that the skin gets adequate protection from sun, moisture is retained and skin regeneration gets a boost. With regular use of such products, you will see great improvement when it comes to wrinkles and fine lines.

The few things you will need for maintaining a skin care regime for women over 50 include facial cleanser, a moisturizer for the day with SPF and a moisturizer for night. You will also need a washcloth while cleaning and washing your face.

Use a gentle cleanser that has non-soap formula to clean your face two times a day, once in the morning and once in night. It is better if you go for cleansers that are specifically created for aging, mature skin like yours as they have most amount of moisturizer. Take about a dime-size cleanser in your hand and massage it slowly to your skin. Now wet a washcloth with tepid water and wash off the cleanser by rubbing with the washcloth. Use circular motion while doing that. When you wash off in such a manner, your face not only gets cleaned, it also gets exfoliated.

Remember that the sun is your worst enemy all the more as your natural protection system is now slowing down. So avoid direct sunlight as much as possible as it can also lead to skin cancer and faster aging.

After cleaning your face in the morning, use a serum or rich emollient cream to moisturize your skin. Look for those products that come with antioxidants like Vitamin C or peptides and protect your skin from both UVB and UVA rays. Such moisturizer for women over 50 generally come with SPF 15 or 30. Make sure you apply it to your face when it is still damp from cleansing; as wet skin react better with such anti-aging products.

At night, the moisturizer to use after your clean your face should be some thick cream that has retinoids like Retin-A or retinol. Retinoid have a tendency to become extra-sensitive to sun and hence you should use retinoid based products at night for maximum benefit. Just rub it gently to your face and let it work through for the rest of the night.
Women over 50 should make sure that they visit their dermatologist on regular basis. There are many health problems related to your skin that may come up at this age; and you need to protect yourself from them as well as along with protection from the signs of aging.

One of the most popular is Cavin Klein's Eau de Parfum Spray, coming in the 3.4 ounce bottle. The bottle itself is a striking piece of art, as it is sort of an arched shape bottle with a sleek rectangular lid that stands like a small corporate building. Lavender in color, the perfume is a wonderful blend of flowers and a sort of an herbal mix so that it offers a very modern and fresh scent, one that is perfect for casual wear and formal wear as it retains properties that would work well for just a day at work or school but also is elegant enough to wear if you are going to a party or some other fancy event as it is richly imbued with a strong floral scent, as well. Fitting the name well, this perfume inspires a sense of absolute bliss and will be sure to get the admiration of others as they breathe you in when you walk by.

Another fun and flirty scent is Lolita Lempicka by Lolita Lempicka. This vintage bottle comes in an apple shape with nice sage accents and is an elegant and adorable 3.3 ounce perfume spray. The scent is unbelievable fresh and flirty and a lot of fun. It is the perfect scent to wear all the time as it can quickly become one's signature scent. With its easy to store shape, you can take it with you wherever you, as well. More sweet and almost candy like than flowery, it has more of a fruity sense to it, a sweetness that will please you if you like to smell sweet and candied. For those who adore all that is romantic and feminine, this is the perfect scent for you.

Another beloved scent is Fantasy by Britney Spears, a 3.3 ounce pink bottle studded with diamond studs and an elegant and feminine cap. For a fun, flirty time, this Fantasy perfume is exactly what you need to get the sparks flying and to turn heads as you lean in for a quick kiss or an embrace. Another popular celebrity inspired perfume is Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker, a 3.4 ounce bottle that is soft and pink and true to its name as it combines the gentle scents of flower and herbs and creates a truly feminine scent that you will adore.

This scent is gentler and might be great for women of all ages who adore something that is feminine and subtle. For something more outgoing and loud, Paris Hilton by Paris Hilton is preferable as it comes in a modish bottle and has a sharp and youthful scent that is marked with a strong emphasis on flowers and vigorous scent. Contrarily, Romance by Ralph Lauren is far more sophisticated and elegant as the scent is subtle and gentle but entirely feminine.

How to apply makeup in 10 steps

How to apply makeup in 10 steps

Author: danielmyles

The 10 steps

1.Apply a concealer with a shade lighter than your foundation. You can mix with your fingers or a sponge- this is designed to hide dark circles.
2. Select a foundation colour that matches your skin tone. Apply in the central part of your face, and then blend with a sponge or your fingers until it covers it completely.
3. Use powder to keep foundation and concealer in place - choose a loose powder with the texture of your choice.
4. Use eye shadow powder instead of paste. Apply with a brush.
5. Choose three colours of eye shadow: more light, medium, and very dark. Use the black on the upper eyelid to draw a fine line along the upper lashes. Then use the middle and end with the lighter.
6. Use eyeliner with a wet brush or pencil to define the eye area below the lashes. Line only two-thirds of the lower eyelid, especially if you're going for a darker look.
7. Apply mascara to top and bottom lashes, in two thin layers to prevent dough from forming. Choose brown mascara for a dark complexion.
8. Apply blush a colour similar to that of your complexion
9.Apply a tone of red lipstick that suites you best
10.Then highlight the contour of your lips using a lip pencil

Additional Tips

* Follow the steps in the order given and do not forget to clean and moisturize your face before applying makeup.
* Choose shades lighter or darker to emphasize the month or eyes.
* Makeup brushes should be clean. You can wash them gently in warm water with mild soap. Allow to air dry overnight.
* Do not skimp on makeup tools. The high-quality tools make the task easier and faster.
* The bacteria proliferate in cosmetics and can cause infections. Do not keep products that are too old and avoid sharing make up with others.

A Guide to Types of Foundation

A Guide to Types of Foundation

Author: Charlotte Bleasdale

For many women foundation, or base, is an everyday essential and for even more it's a must for when they get blemishes or need a little extra boost. But ensuring you have the right foundation is essential or you could get a covering that doesn't suit your skin type or shade. This guide should help highlight the main features of different types of foundation and what kind to use for your skin type.

Liquid (water or oil based)

A liquid foundation is extremely popular and versatile. You can choose from both water and oil based varieties with water based being best for oilier skin and oil based for those with dryer skin. The coverage of a liquid is completely reliant on how much you use which makes it great for anyone who wants versatility.

Creams

Creams are a fabulous choice for anyone with dry skin. The creamy texture gives a relatively thick coverage eliminating the need for concealer. Cream base gives a moisturised, dewy effect but because they're so moisturising they should not be used on combination skin.

Mousse

A current trend is the mousse foundation. Mousse or foam foundations give very light coverage. The advantage of this is that you don't feel it on your skin, but unfortunately it only gives a very light coverage. If you've got relatively good skin that just needs evening out a little mousse could be perfect for you!

Liquid to powder

Cream foundations that become a powder once applied are ideal for people with oily skin. The powdery texture will absorb excess oil but the liquid starting point makes it easy to apply. This variety lasts really well and gives a nice, even coverage.

Mineral make up

Mineral make up is the latest craze. Mineral make up is ideal for those with sensitive skin as it is hypoallergenic. It's also easy to build up your desired coverage with a mineral powder – just apply with a large brush.

Tinted moisturiser

A moisturiser with foundation or tinted moisturiser is perfect if you want light coverage that's good for your skin. Tinted moisturisers are a good starting point for teenage girls and work best on dry skin. You'll get a light, coverage that leaves your skin feeling smooth.

Choosing your favourite foundation should be based on your skin type, skin shade, favourite feel and look and favourite application technique. If you find one you like for all the categories then it's worth getting the two shades either side of your usual colour. That way if you have a tan or notice any changes in your skin tone you can mix your colour until it is just right!

The Gentleman's Guide to Skin Care

The Gentleman's Guide to Skin Care

Author: Tiffany Windhurst

Proper skin care and nourishment is just as important for a man as it is for a woman. In fact, in many ways, it's more important.

Not only are men more likely to perspire, they tend to pick up more oil, dirt and other contaminants. The daily ritual of shaving can dry out the skin, as it strips away natural moisture and can lead to chafing and roughness. Even men with facial hair can be prone to clogged pores and hair follicles, which can lead to breakouts, rough skin, irritations and sometimes possible infections.

Luckily, following a skin care regime is really quite simple. The three basic steps are cleansing, moisturizing and protecting.

Cleansing: Wash your face twice a day with a mild, soap free cleanser. If you are prone to oily or dry skin, products that are made for these problems are obviously the best choice. When you wash, start by rinsing the face with hot water. Rub the cleanser on in circular motions to help penetrate the pores and gently massage and exfoliate. This will prevent the build up of dirt in the pores. Once you're done cleansing, splash your face with cold water at least ten times. This will close the open pores, making it difficult for dirt to find its way in.

Moisturizing: There are moisturizers specifically designed for use by men. You should always apply a light moisturizer after washing to help replenish and nourish the skin. Facial skin can be prone to bouts of dryness, especially when exposed to weather, sports, heavy persperation and so on. There is nothing rugged or handsome about dry skin.

Protect: Sunburn causes discoloured areas of skin, can lead to skin cancer and other diseases, as well as causing skin to flake and peel. A good sunblock should be applied even for short excursions in the sun. Men often forget to reapply after heavy activity, so keep a bottle handy to reapply after cutting the grass, swimming or playing sports. Again, perspiration can wash away the sunblock, so always have some on hand to protect your skin.

Neglecting your skin is not a guy thing, it's a silly thing. Your face will stay with you throughout your life, so you should be taking steps to keep it looking its best at all times.

How to Look Slimmer

How to Look Slimmer

Author: Tiff Windhurst

Does this make me look fat? While your spouse may roll their eyes when you ask that question, it's actually a valid query.

Certain styles and colour will draw attention to pudgy areas, while others will give our bodies more flow, allowing us to look slimmer. If you want to look a little lighter than you are, it's a matter of highlighting the good areas and detracting from the thicker areas.

Black is Slimming: This old wive's tale is completely true. And it's not exclusive to just black. Dark, solid colours, such as black, navy blue or dark brown have a slimming effect and make you appear thinner. You should avoid heavy patterns, especially horizontal stripes. The stripes actually add width to your body and make you appear larger.

The Right Shoes: Your shoes are an important part of your wardrobe. They complement the legs, and the style is key to completing the look you desire. Wearing shoes that are the same colour as what's dressing your legs, be it pants or pantyhose, will elongate your legs and make them appear slimmer. Short ended round or square toed shoes can make you look stubby, whereas long pointed toes will continue the thinning look.

Skinny Jewels: Jewelry can attract attention and broaden a slim face or narrow down a large face. Long dangling jewels are the best accessory choice to reduce the look of broadness. Earrings that hang straight and low are preferable to large chunky styles or oversized circles. The same holds true for necklines, as long necklaces will give you length where as bulky beads will make you look wider.

Finally, the most important part of maintaining a slimmer appearance is standing correctly. Stand straight and tall, with correct posture. Slouching will make you look bulkier, so always stand and walk straight, with your head up, arms at your sides (not crossed) and eyes forward.

When to Toss Cosmetics from Your Makeup Bag?

When to Toss Cosmetics from Your Makeup Bag?

Author: annebrown1

Women love cosmetics and makeup. Today there are loads of cosmetics brands to choose from. But do you know the face that your favourite lipstick do has an expiry date and so your other cosmetics makeup products. Every cosmetic has shelf life that you use every day and you need to toss them after expiration dates. Otherwise these old products may cause skin irritation, rashes and acne.

Here we help you to find out when to toss cosmetics from makeup bag and their estimated expiration dates. Just keep it in your mind that if you are using natural or herbal products then you can last it for long time.

Let have a look at the general life of various makeup/cosmetics products

Caring for Your Manicure

Caring for Your Manicure

Author: T. Windhurst

If you've spent a great deal of time and effort preparing and polishing your nails so they look fabulous, you should put forth just as much effort in maintaining and caring for your manicure.

Painted nails look best when they are shiny and freshly polished. Once nail polish starts to chip, crack or flake it detracts from the glamourous look you started with. Keeping your nails and cuticles looking their best simply means knowing when and how to apply touch ups, and when to start fresh.

While applying your polish to your nails, be sure to wait about five to ten minutes between coats. This allows the finish to harden and will prevent pulling or smudging. Applying layers too quickly means the polish itself takes longer to dry, which is why nails end up creased or smudged.

A little nail polish remover on a cotton swab is a great way to spot touch any minor mistakes. If you've painted onto the cuticle or the edge of your finger, gently dab it away.

A small chip in your nail polish can usually be covered by applying an extra coat to the nail. Do one or two layers over the chipped area, then apply a full coat to the entire nail to keep everything looking smooth and seamless.

After about a week it's time for a fresh coat. Fingernails are constantly growing, so it's important to remove old polish before it looks haggard. Furthermore, it's important to give your nails a little air, which they don't get if they are constantly covered with nail polish.

When you are preparing to apply a new coat, that's the best time to shape, file and trim your nails. Don't forget to push back or trim your cuticles as needed. Applying a little oil or moisturizer to the clean nail and cuticle will keep your nails richly hydrated and strong.

Of-course, we can't forget the best advice for beautiful nails: no chewing and no biting!
