Wines of Tuscany: Chianti

Wines of Tuscany

Chianti

The Luxurious hills of Tuscany have long prized for their luscious red wines, especially from Sangiovese grapes. Ideal weather conditions, coupled with a hearty soil, make for fantastic growing conditions that can lead to some tremendous vintages.

Tuscany is perhaps best known for its Chianti, which us produced in eight distinct areas of Tuscany. Chianti is a light, dry red wine that is easily digested and is popular as a table wine. Chianti tends to age beautifully into a delightful wine with the fine bouquet and clear character, so older vintages can be quite popular.

The grapes that are now used to create many of the vintages in Tuscany were originally brought to the region by the Etruscans over 3000 years ago from the orient. The cultivation of the grapes was an important aspect of their culture throughout the history and we have them to thank for the wines we are able to enjoy today.
