Revered by most women as an utter necessity, makeup covers blemishes and brightens faces, but breaks the bank while doing it. With a simple tube of eyeliner costing as much as a meal, it is not uncommon for full cosmetic kits to add up to hundreds. Bellow are some tips that encourage cost-conscious makeup shopping, giving you a few extra dollars to spend outside the beauty aisle.

Be Mindful of Brands

Makeup is much like clothing- name-brands cost more. Cutting costs by buying less expensive brands might mean changing stores altogether. Purchase your cosmetics at your local drugstore instead of beauty or department boutiques. Most dollar stores have a decent makeup aisle as well, allowing you to stock up on everything you need at a much reduced cost.

Buy in Bulk

Treat your makeup cabinet like you do your pantry- always keep it stocked! Buying in bulk saves you money and ensures you never run out of the essential items. Your traditional price-clubs like Costco or BJ's offer bulk makeup that costs significantly less than the same quantity at other stores. When purchasing bulk items, however, it is important to be wary of expiration dates. While most powders and pencils last for years, other makeup products do expire.

Conserve and Preserve

The simplest way to cut costs in the makeup department is to simply use less! Try wearing the bare-minimum for a change; you'll save money and your pores will love you! If cutting back isn't your thing, think about properly preserving the makeup you already have. You've probably thrown out an eyeshadow or blush that cracked and crumbled at least once in your life, and been frustrated at having to prematurely replace it. Invest in some small reusable containers and quality makeup brushes, so the next time your makeup shatters you can seal-up what you can salvage and get the most for your money.

Go Sample Crazy!

When temptation gets the best of you and your feet bring you back to the beauty boutique, find the free samples and stock up! While not advisable to attempt to acquire your entire makeup wardrobe in this way, slipping some free samples every once in a while is a great way to indulge in name-brands a little and try some new products. Don't get too sample-silly or the store clerks will catch on to your scheme and close-up shop!

In addition to the above tips, always keep on the lookout for coupons and sales. Makeup might dominate your morning routine, but it doesn't have to empty your wallet.
