Choosing the Right Shirt for an Autumn Event

Choosing the Right Shirt for an Autumn Event

Choosing the Right Shirt for an Autumn Event

By Jamie Simpson

Just like their female counterparts, men can look fashionable as well. In fact, when men dress up, they appear especially distinguished and charming.

With the weather turning comfortably cool, autumn is the perfect season for many events to happen, and each event requires a certain dress code. Whether the events are casual or dressy, wearing the appropriate attire always makes a man look respectable. Therefore, choosing the right shirt for an autumn event becomes an essential task.

Wedding

Many couples choose to get married in autumn. With golden leaves and subtle sunset as a backdrop, who wouldn't want a wedding in such a romantic atmosphere?

If you plan to attend an autumn wedding, you need proper attire that's dressy and shows off this season's newest retro trend. This includes boot-cut trousers, long jackets, saddle shoes and skinny ties. The ideal look is cool, refined and dressy but without trying too hard. A retro shirt, then, is one with solid patterns and muted colours. Hues such as slate, brown or black all work well.

Camping

Another trend this fall is the woodsman look, which includes hunting boots, puffy vests, and wool jackets. All these elements keep you warm but also make you look cool. It's a tougher look than the retro but perfect for a hiking and camping trip. For shirts, flannel works the best. Try flannel shirts with thick material and large prints to show off your outdoorsy side.

The Races

Going to the races is one of autumn's favourite activities. If you plan to join friends for a day at the races betting on horses or dogs, then the preppy look is perfect for this occasion. Put on a pin-striped button up or a collard tee over a pair of straight khakis. This look gives you a sophisticated but also young, smart and professional look.

Theatre or Local Band

When the weather gets chilly, indoor activities become more popular. If you plan on going to the theatre or to see a local band, then try this season's smart casual look. The tailoring trend is always popular come autumn, and this year tailoring has become more casual. The catwalks have been filled with this loose tailored look which allows you to look smart without trying too hard.

Coffee Shop

If you are the type who likes spending a quiet night with a book at the local coffee shop, then head out with a preppy pinstripe or checked shirt, a sweater vest, bow tie and thick-rimmed glasses. This look is intellectual and witty, and makes the perfect ensemble for a night next to the fire place, sipping a frothy latte.

Dinner Parties

Dinner parties with friends are always popular events in autumn. Before everyone sees their family for the holidays, they usually get together with friends. For dinner parties, smart shirts with sweaters over trousers or dressy jeans work the best. If you're just with friends, you may not want to dress up in a full suit because it can look stuffy, but you also don't want to look too casual. Sweaters give you enough class but keep you from looking pretentious.

However, if you are attending a dinner party where a suit may be necessary, you could team your suit with a crisp white shirt and a coloured tie, bow-tie or cravat and a matching handkerchief for your top pocket.

Style Tips for Skinny, Large and Athletic People

Style Tips for Skinny, Large and Athletic People

By Kevin Thrasher

Style Tips For Skinny People

• Go to the gym and workout, with enough work even guys with smaller frames can pack on muscle (see the supplemental fitness guide).

• Wear fitted clothes. If your clothes are too baggy, they actually make you look skinnier.

• On the flip side, don't wear clothes that are TOO tight. You don't want to look like you have chicken arms/legs. Straight or boot-cut jeans good, skinny jeans bad.

• Avoid jackets/blazers with shoulder pads. These can make you look unbalanced.

• Avoid pin stripes and wear patterns and horizontal stripes that give you a wider profile.

• Jackets should not extend beyond your hip, otherwise they will make your legs look too thin. On the flip side, if the jacket is too short, it will make you look like a little kid.

• Layering is great not only for staying warm and creating a more interesting look, but it can also add some bulk to your frame, and make you look less skinny.

• Avoid wearing large belt buckles, as they will make you look skinnier by contrast.

Style Tips For Large People

• As with most men, fit is key. You don't want to wear clothes are too tight, as they can reveal some undesirable curves, but don't wear your clothes so loose that they make you look bigger than you are.

• The old cliche is that black is slimming, and it's true. If you want to appear skinnier, stick to darker hues. Avoid bright colors and bold patterns unless you don't mind drawing attention to your weight and are confident about your body.

• Don't carry excess baggage in your pockets, which will make you look bigger.

• Wear low-rise jeans, and make sure that your belly does not protrude over your waist line.

• Wearing jackets and blazers with wider shoulders can give your body a more attractive "V" appearance, and draw attention to your shoulders rather than your torso/midsection.

• Posture is key. Stand/sit up straight, roll your shoulders back, and keep your core/stomach tight. Slouching will make you look larger, in an unattractive way.

• Avoid bulky tops, and wear shirts with vertical lines. The idea is draw the viewer's eye vertically, rather than horizontally.

• A fit body is an attractive body; see the supplemental fitness guide.

Style Tips For Athletic People

• Wear fitted clothing to show off your body, but avoid wearing clothing that's too tight, unless you're going for the muscle look, which can appear a little try-hard.

• Good posture is key: keep your shoulders rolled back and down and your back straight. This will make you look stronger and more confident.

• Consider wearing tank tops if you have nice looking arms.

• The more masculine your physique, the more you can experiment with more feminine touches without appearing too feminine because of the dichotomy of masculinity vs. femininity. Try experimenting with purple or pink shirts.

Men's Fashion Tips for 2011

Men's Fashion Tips for 2011

By Pogik Brown

Men, nowadays, are paying much attention to how they look, what they wear and what style best suits them. Today men's fashion has gained equal importance as that of women. Here are some men's fashion guidelines to keep in mind when choosing right attire that give a good general appearance on a few major points.

Now that summer is quickly approaching, despite the gloomy weather, there are many styling tips for men to keep them trendy, and knowing the basic pointers in choosing the right attire at the most appropriate time can help them look neater or more fashionable without too much hassle.

When it comes to T-shirt colors, summer colors are always nicer than the drab winter colors. Browns, black and grey were out this year. It is high time to welcome vibrant colors and those with two key spectrums. The first is the warm palette containing red and oranges, while the other palette of colors includes blue and turquoise. From these key spectrums, bright pink and aquamarine were expected to set the trend this summer. On the other hand, men must always think that colors convey mood and personality. Bright pink conveys passion while aquamarine connotes calmness and tranquility.

When it comes to proper fit of T-shirts, it is very important to choose those with comforting fabrics. Out were the days for relaxed styles with lots of material. Men's fashion trends, nowadays, include more fitted styles that cling to the contours of the body. Round necks are hot this year to reflect the warm weather short sleeves, which can be matched with sleeveless vests. Lengths of the tops for this year were slightly longer than those seen last year.

Talking about fabrics, pure cotton is great for the summer to make you feel fresher and comfortable. As a general rule, it is always best to wear something that you were comfortable of. Shorts are still in, as well as trousers. There are occasions when you will need to wear pants during summer. At these times it is always important to pick pants that will match your tops. It is always a good idea to keep the pants darker than the shirt.

Even though fashion trends keep changing from time to time, men must always think that whatever their age are, or they body frame and choice of style, dressing accordingly is still what fashion is all about. Knowing who you are, learning how to express yourself without overdressing, and learning how to carry yourself properly are still what matters most.

Men's Fashion - Advice On What To Pack For Your Next Vacation

Men's Fashion - Advice On What To Pack For Your Next Vacation
by Mark Walters

We may be in the depths of winter at the moment, but that doesn't mean you can't start planning your summer vacation! It never hurts to be prepared and sometimes a little forward planning can be just the 'pick me up' you need when it's cold. One thing you should always make sure to pack for a summer break is a good pair of sunglasses. The bigger the better, really, as they will protect your eyes from both the sun and the glare. Don't forget them just because they're small.

You should also make sure to take a selection of T-shirts with you. Tees are great for use as cover-ups on the beach if you can feel yourself burning in the sun, as well as being useful if you're heading off to a bar or restaurant. Take a selection of colors with you, so you can mix and match your outfits, but be careful not to wear anything that clashes with the amazing tan you're sure to get. Go with loose, breathable fabrics like cotton to stay cool.

To go with your great selection of tees, make sure you take a few pairs of board shorts on your vacation. These are fantastic as they can double up as bathing shorts, saving space in your luggage. They're also great for going out on day trips or for a casual, laidback beach look. Go for a longer length down to you knee if possible. They also fold up really small and are made from breathable fabric, making them ideal for summer vacations.

You need to make sure to take a couple of pairs of shoes with you on vacation, too. Don't go overboard, or they won't fit in your luggage! Flip flops are great for casual exploring or for lounging around on the beach, plus they're cheap and don't take up much space, making them a great buy. A pair of sturdy sandals is also a good idea on vacation as they're breathable and cool but sturdy enough that you'll be able to walk around in them if you need to.

Another item you should definitely take with you is a long-sleeve casual shirt. More than one can be a good idea, especially if you have fair skin that needs to be protected from the sun. It's always an idea to have something to cover your shoulders and choosing a light color such as white or pale blue will help to reflect the sun and keep you cool, even when wearing long sleeves. These shirts will also be great if you find yourself out for a formal meal.
