Fall 2011 Hair Trends

Fall 2011 Hair TrendsFall 2011 Hair Trends

By Jacobus Beresford

This year hair has been all about revival and evolution. As trends are reused every few years they are changed and grow into something new, yet not straying from their roots. This fall, styles and colours from 2010 will be reworked and mastered. 2011 fall and winter has a lot in store from braids to bangs and teased hair, prepping fashionistas for 2012 as seventies fashion remains high on the runway radar. Pleats, fur and bell bottoms are creeping their way back into the fashion world with a small emphasis on biker-punk look.

Long Hair

There has been a draw towards the look of 'effortless', simple yet messy. From a simple double knot to a teased bun on the top of your head, these are all in style. Another aspect of this season will be braids. Specifically double braids with your hair half up. We've seen it happening already and it's still going strong. Lastly, for long hair, a less expected trend of the sexy, half up style is hitting the fashion wave. Whether puffy or sleek, this half up style is good for daytime and night.

Medium Length Hair

The bob has been taking to a whole new level with the addition of the wave. Stylists and models alike are not over the bob yet, but it needed to be reinvented; kept fresh. The fashion trend for medium length hair for fall is the wavy bob. If this doesn't appeal to you, the bob with fringe is also rolling it's way onto the circuit. Straight, streamlined bangs with a bob, curled at the bottom will also be seen this fall.

Short Hair

Popular in 2007, yet dated back to the 1960's, this fall you will be seeing a lot of pixie crop cuts. It contained short sides with a longer fringe but this fall you will see a version of it that is short all over. This hairstyle works best for those with straight hair, but speak to your stylist if you want something similar but have wavy or curly hair.

Colour

This fall is not about specific colours. It is about picking the colour that suites you. With all the reality television shows about makeovers, there has been a calling for colouring your hair in relation to your skin tone. This fall also emphasized the dramatic. If your skin tone matches a blond tone, you want to make your blond as dramatic as possible. It's all about strong hues.

It's fantastic being with the latest trends but always remember to choose styles that suite you. You want your hair to match your face structure and skin tone, don't be led astray because of something you see that looks good on someone else. You can stay within the fall 2011 styles without having a certain hair cut or colour that doesn't suit you.

The Hottest Summer Hairstyle Trends for 2011

The Hottest Summer Hairstyle Trends for 2011

By Sherry Brister

As a season marked by fashion revivals, it's no surprise that some of the hottest hair trends for the summer of 2011 happen to be updated versions of classic styles. Much of this is driven by celebrities who sometimes take inspiration from the fashion trends of yesteryear. As such, here are some of the most popular cuts and hair colors for the hottest months of the year.

Long hair is always popular, but this year the way it is styled will take precedence over the way it is cut. For example, first appearing on various fashion runways this spring, the summer beehive is back in vogue, albeit a bit more relaxed than its predecessor. Jennifer Lopez was one of the first celebrities to sport the updated beehive this year.

Another new trend for long hair this summer is the braided topknot. Combining two popular hair trends of the past three years, the braided topknot recently appeared on the Sass and Bide spring runway to compliment their summer tribal fashion line. While some styles combine multiple braids, the basic hairstyle consists of a single French braid running up the back of the hair, finished off with a messy topknot. Many celebrities have sported variations of this hairstyle recently.

For a more casual long hair look, the double hair knot is a soft, summery look that is perfect for almost any facial shape. The look is essentially an undone braid sitting at the nape of the neck, and incorporates elements of texture and contour to maintain a fresh look.

Medium hair has been dominated by long bobs, but summer 2011 styles will feature a twist on the outgrown bob - literally. Loose waves that just graze the shoulders will add a feminine sophistication to your hairstyle. Bobs with loose waves and enhanced volume can be done in both fully stylized as well as more relaxed varieties, offering something for just about every woman.

Extremely short hair will be another trend in 2011, with the pixie crop emerging as the favored short hairstyle. Celebrities like Emma Watson and Carey Mulligan have sported this look in the past, but unlike 2010's pixie cut, which was long in the front and short in the back, this style is daringly short all over.

Full, bold bangs will also be in vogue this year. One popular variation involves pairing this style with a sleek bob, and all lengths and styles of hair have seen the reemergence of the fringe. Long and oval face shapes are best suited for these bangs.

Colors can be as extreme as the summer temperatures, and two of the most popular shades at the moment are vibrant red and pale blond colors. The rarity of these colors adds to their appeal, and in general the best shades should be bold without appearing unnatural. Both of these colors look especially great on women with fair complexions.

With as much variety for hair as there is for fashion, the summer of 2011 should prove to be a fun-filled season of experimentation for fashion divas everywhere.

The Hottest Hair Trends of 2011: Will You Be Bold?

The Hottest Hair Trends of 2011: Will You Be Bold?

By Krystyna Trushyna

It's my belief that you should always be able to look at old photos and distinguish one year from another by just looking at your hairstyle: "Oh look! My hair was dark and in a funky angular bob, so that was 2009!" What are the hottest hair trends and ideas for 2011? What hair colors are top and in?

So far, it appears that the hottest hair trend so far in 2011 is long hair. I think long hair, especially if it's down past your shoulders, is going to hold strong. A lot of celebrities are sporting long hair again, especially slightly wavy hair parted down the center, with the absence of bangs. Think of hair like Kate Hudson or Drew Barrymore, who have been sporting this look for years.

Short hair remains popular. Of course there are a lot of celebrities that are opting for shorter hair, and are pulling it off with grace. Such celebrities as Jeniffer Aniston, Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes love bob haircut. I love Michelle Williams short cropped pixie cut, and it added to her stylish simplicity at the 2011 Oscars. If you lead a super busy life, then considering going short is a good choice, of course only if you have the hair texture that will support it.

Super curly hair and super thick hair need not apply for a short hair job. In my opinion, 2011 will see a lot of short hairstyles, but they'll be super short styles with low maintenance. I think that the days of shorter hair styles that have tons going on are over, so we won't see short cuts with spiky pieces, angled pieces, and drastically long pieces in the front while the back is cut close. Michelle Williams and Halle Berry's timeless crop are good examples 2011's short hair trend.

Of course if you're afraid to chop all of your hair off, you can always change your look drastically just by dying it. I think colors are going to be warming up this year, so we're going to see a lot of dark, rich browns and warmer blonde colors. For the more adventurous, bold colors that have shades of blue, red, pink and purple are going to be hot as well.

Hair can always grow back, and it can always be dyed, so don't be afraid to try out something new in 2011! Forget boring hair styles of 2010! Hello, modern short hair trends!
