SOUTHAMPTON HOSPITAL KICKS OFF THE 53rd ANNUAL SUMMER PARTY



Kicking off the Southampton Hospital’s 53rd Annual Summer Party, Patty and George Kraus hosted a cocktail reception at their lovely Southampton estate on June 25, 2011. The exclusive event—which was held for the supporters of the Southampton Hospital—included Jean Shafiroff, Chair, 53rd Annual Southampton Hospital Summer Party, Martin Shafiroff, Patty and George Kraus, Jean Remmel FitzSimmons, Chuck Scarborough, Robert S. Chaloner, Mary Katherine and Alex Navab, Ann and Arnold Jurdem, Christl and Ken Meszkat, Stephanie and Stephen Hessler, Mary Ann and Daniel Van Arsdale, D.O., Marion and Philip Piro, Jr., Raya and Clifton B. Knight, Sandra McConnell and Christopher Obetz.

This year’s Summer Party, “A Tropical Paradise,” will be chaired for the second year by Jean Shafiroff, who expressed her gratitude to this year’s committee members and Hospital staff for their hard work and support. “It is an honor for me to again chair this important event and we are anticipating another success!” Hospital President and CEO Robert S. Chaloner greeted guests, joking that “when staying in the Hamptons, the last place you would want to be is in a hospital!” He went on to say, “However, if you are ill, you will not find a better local hospital to take care of you. In the last several years, Southampton Hospital has completely renovated and expanded critical departments, including our Jenny and John Paulson Emergency Department, the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center, the Kathleen

D. Allen Maternity Center and the Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute among other areas. Supporters like you have enabled quality healthcare in the Hamptons.”

The long-time tradition supports the Hospital’s Jenny and John Paulson Emergency Department, which serves more than 25,000 residents and visitors annually on Long Island’s South Fork— the Emergency Department was named after the Paulsons in recognition of their generous support for the Hospital. Tiffany & Co. will serve as the Honorary Jewelry Chair, Barclay’s Wealth will serve as the Honorary Corporate Chair, Cushman and Wakefield will serve as the Honorary Commercial Real Estate Chair and Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate will serve as the Honorary Residential Real Estate Chair. The highly-anticipated Southampton Hospital’s 53rd Annual Summer Party will take place on Saturday, August 6, 2011 under the tents at the corner of Wickapogue and Old Town Roads in Southampton, New York.

In anticipation of Southampton Hospital’s 53rd Annual Summer Party, A Tropical Paradise, Executive Vice President of Tiffany & Co. Beth O. Canavan hosted a charming celebratory luncheon at the private salon of the Tiffany & Co.’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue on June 7, 2011. The private event honored Jean Shafiroff, the event’s 2010 and 2011 Chairwoman, and past chairs of Southampton Hospital’s Annual Summer Party. Those who came to support the Hospital were Fe Fendi, Laura Lofaro Freeman, Christina Greeven Cuomo, Jean Remmel FitzSimmons, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Sheila O’Malley Fuchs, Carola Jain, Joan Hornig, Sandra McConnell, and Betty Sherrill.

Chair Jean Shafiroff Hosts Southampton Hospital’s 53rd Annual Summer Party



Kick Off Luncheon at New York City’s Le Cirque






To kick off the Southampton Hospital’s 53rd Annual Summer Party, Chair Jean Shafiroff, hosted a luncheon at New York City’s elegant Le Cirque restaurant. Led by Master of Ceremonies, NBC News anchor Chuck Scarborough, a long time supporter of the Hospital, with special guest speaker Robert S. Chaloner, President & CEO Southampton Hospital, the event was held for the supporters of the Southampton Hospital. Guests at the luncheon included Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, Sharon Bush, Fe Fendi, Laura Lofaro Freeman, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Ann Rapp, Marion Piro, Alex and Kate Donner, Sandra McConnell, Chris Obetz, Janna Bullock, Cece Black, Victoria Wyman, and fashion designer Victor de Souza, just to name a few.



As the luncheon began, Scarborough thanked and informed attendees that “the success of the Hospital has been built on extraordinary momentum.” Scarborough led guests in enthusiastic applause by introducing someone, “who last year under her chairmanship, helped raise a record 1.7 million dollars…the leader who is going to take us to our new goal of 2 million dollars, the woman who did such an extraordinary job—Jean Shafiroff!”

Greeted by trumpeters and set against the whimsical backdrop of the MacKenzie-Childs boutique, a festive crowd received an early start to the festive holiday season with Southampton Hospital. Hosted by the 2011 Summer Party Chair Jean Shafiroff, guests enjoyed gourmet bites and cocktails while browsing the boutique’s chic home designs. Attendees enjoying the holiday spirit included CEO of Mackenzie-Childs Lee Feldman, Director of Retail & Trade Operations for Mackenzie-Childs Jamie De Vault, Southampton Hospital Foundation President Steven M. Bernstein, Martin Shafiroff, Laura Lofaro Freeman, Sharon Kerr, John and Margo Catsimatidis, Myra Weiser, Victoria Wyman,Melanie Wambold, Andrea Greeven Douzet, Sharon Bush, Lucia Hwong Gordon, Yaz Hernandez, Margot Langenberg, author Rita Cosby, Ann Rapp, Zita Davisson, Lisa Evers of FOX News, Cassandra Seidenfeld Lyster, and Ranee Bartolacci-Meir of Insignia Productions.

Shopping attendees received twenty percent off one regular priced item; more importantly, ten percent of all sales were donated to Southampton Hospital, which provides healthcare services to communities from Westhampton to Montauk. MacKenzie-Childs also provided complimentary shipping for purchases over $295.

The success of the event was a continuation of Jean’s record-breaking fundraising efforst for the 2010 Summer Gala, which this yearsupported the operations of Southampton Hospital’s recently opened Jenny and John Paulson Emergency Department. The 2011 Summer Gala will be held on August 6, 2011.

The Mission of Southampton Hospital is to provide and ensure the highest quality of healthcare services to communities from Westhampton to Montauk. Donations help launch important new programs and services, sustain and improve current initiatives, acquire urgently needed equipment and medical technology, provide care to vulnerable and disadvantaged populations, initiate capital projects, renovate and refurbish current facilities, support annual projects, and educate and train the healthcare providers of tomorrow. Thanks to the tireless fundraising efforts by supporters of the Southampton Hospital, it has achieved a high level of excellence in patient safety and care. In 2010 the hospital was awarded the Healthgrades’ Patient Safety Excellence Award for the second time and was recognized by The Healthcare Association of New York State with its Pinnacle Award for Quality and Patient Safety.
