Travelling to Rome

Travelling to Rome

Author: barry summers

If you are planning on a vacation, then taking a trip to Rome is something that seriously needs to be considered. The reason for this is because Rome is one of the most popular destinations for visitors across the whole world. There are several reasons for this. Very few cities in the world offer so much in the way of art, architecture, culture and religion. In fact a big portion of the visitors who come here like to visit the Vatican. The Vatican which is situated within the city is home of the Roman Catholic Church. Because of all these reasons and more, finding cheap flights to Rome is a relatively easy task.

All the major airlines in Europe and a few smaller ones have regular service to Rome. There are plenty of web sites which specialize in cheap flights Rome. The city of Rome has something to offer for everyone. One of biggest draws of this city is the Coliseum. In fact it is so well known, the design of the building has come to represent the city. This is a sporting complex built nearly 2000 years ago and it housed the gladiatorial battles. It is one of the biggest single monuments of the ancient world. Other architectural attractions include the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. Food is also another highlight of Rome. After all it is the capital of Italy, which is the cuisine capital of Europe.

As mentioned before, a large portion of visitors who go to Rome go there to visit the Vatican. One of the main Architectural delights is of course the famous St. Peters Basilica. This cathedral is teeming with artwork done by some of the most famous artists of the renaissance period. One thing to keep in mind when booking
cheap flights to Rome is cheaper accommodation. There are many choices for a person to stay, from small family owned bed-and- breakfast and youth hostels. The trick is to go off season time to find the best rates on air tickets as well as accommodation. The summer months are the busiest season. Therefore if you are flexible with your time, then finding cheap flights Rome will be easy.

When booking
cheap flights to Rome you have to make sure you will be arriving at the correct airport. Rome has 2 airports, Leonardo da Vinci airport and Fiumicino International Airport. Most of the cheaper flights arrive at Leonardo da Vinci Airport.

Good Things Italian: The Best Pizza Reastaurants in Italy

It's been a while since we've posted about Good Things Italian from our dear friend Alex's "Blog from Italy". We welcome Alex back , by sharing with our friends and readers Alex's publication dedicated to everyone's favorite food:" Pizza"!
Alex expresses his thoughts about pizza and shares with the world what are known to be the Best Pizza Restaurants in Italy.

Alex writes:

While pizza is to be found in just about every corner of the world, its popularity in its land of origin has never diminished. Pizza is as popular today in Italy as it ever has been. Have you ever wondered where in Italy the best pizzas can be found?

Seeing as much of Italy appears to be fuming over the latest escapade of the Berlusconi government, I felt it might be nice to take a break from politics for a moment and to look at a distinctly more appetising subject, which is also much easier to digest: pizza.

Italian author Orietta Boncompagni Ludovisi has had her book “The Best Pizzerias In Italy” republished some five times since it first appeared in 1996. Each time a new edition of Boncompagni Ludovisi’s pizza book hits the bookshops of Italy, it sells like hot cakes. Perhaps that should be “sells like hot pizzas”.

Alex from Blog from Italy writes:

Anyway, I was reading a copy of what I’ve been told by our local news-stand is one of Italy’s best selling travel magazines, Dove, and I found a delicious article all about pizza. Part of said article was a list of the top ten pizzerias in all of Italy in the opinion of Boncompagni Ludovisi, who is probably Italy’s number one pizza expert.

I thought it would be interesting for the rest of the world to know the names of what are considered by an Italian pizza expert to be the top pizzerias in Italy. And once they know, pizza fans the world over will have a better idea of where in Italy they should be spending their holidays.

Before reading on, in which Italian towns and cities do you think the best pizzerias in Italy are to be found?

OK, here’s the top five. For the other five, you’ll have to buy the March 2010 edition of Dove. By the way, ‘Dove’ is pronounced ‘dough-vay’, and is Italian for ‘where’.

Italy by Car - A new Travel Guide

Beautiful Italy

From BlogfromItaly.com

Alex writes:

This post is about a new travel guide about touring Italy by car. Many people who visit Italy will come by car, and to really discover all that Italy’s exceptionally beautiful and varied landscapes have to offer, a car is just about essential.

The Touring Club of Italy, better known as the Touring Club Italiano here in Italy, is a Milan-based non-profit organisation which was founded way back in 1894 by a group of 55 Italian cycling enthusiasts. The TCI, as it is often known, publishes lots of interesting Italy travel guides, the most famous of which are the ‘Guide Rosse‘ or Red Guides, which are not related to Michelin’s similarly named series of Red Guides, by the way. TCI guides are also available in English.

Well, the other day I found myself with half an hour to kill, so I popped in to an Italian Touring Club travel store in central Milan. The shelves of this shop are jam packed with guides, videos, DVDs and a whole host of other travel related resources. You can even buy Italian Touring Club bicycles, which is in keeping with the origins of this organisation, which now boasts some 400,000 members, incidentally. Some of the Italian members of the TCI may well be cyclists, but the majority nowadays will not be, one suspects. Read More

Food and Wine - Braulio an Italian Bitter Drink

From Blog from Italy Alex Writes:

Braulio is one of the many, and admittedly, quite odd, Italian bitters or ‘amari’ in Italian. Braulio bitter originates in the alps, and is produced by the Dott F Peloni, a company which is located Bormio.

Braulio, Italy
Bormio, in the picturesque Valtellina area of northern Italy, also happens to be a ski resort which is very popular with many of Milan’s population. Possibly because of this, bottles of Braulio can be found in many of Milan’s bars, including my favourite bar. Incidentally, the name ‘Braulio’ comes from one of the peaks in the Stelvio park area. Travel - Weekend in Bergamo, Italy

From Blog from Italy, Alex Writes:

When I first came here I spent a few weeks living in Bergamo, while working in Milan. I was lucky enough to live in the old part of the town, which sits rather majestically on a hill and overlooks the huge plain on which Milan is situated.
Old Bergamo is a beautiful and atmospheric place. There are narrow winding streets, old un-altered buildings and quite a few wonderful shops. It can even boast having a number of good places to eat too. What more could one want? (Yes, I love the place) It is generally quiet and has more than enough to keep most people happy for a weekend at least. The icing on the cake is that those who are lucky enough to live in London or Newcastle, and most probably one or two other locations in the UK can get a direct flight to Bergamo at rock bottom prices. Discover Tuscan Bliss Near Beautiful Anghiari

Anghiari ,Tuscany

Alex Roe from Blog from Italy, writes about many of Italy's bed and breakfast and in this particular segment Alex writes about Anghiari Tuscany:

I did not want to tell you about this particular bed and breakfast. Why? Because I am envious of the people who run it. Envious of the fact that they live a stone’s throw away from the medieval village of Anghiari in Tuscany, which can lay claim to being one of the most beautiful villages in all Italy.

Anghiari, Tuscany
And I’m stuck in noisy Milan with a blasted old fogies disco virtually on my doorstep. I want to live in Anghiari! And you might too, if you happen to go stay at the Tuscan Bliss bed and breakfast which is situated no more than a few minutes walk away from this timeless Tuscan treasure. Read More
