Which Perfume Is Appropriate After 40?

All women want to remain youthful, but your appearance must also be age appropriate. What looks nice on your teenager daughter is probably not appropriate for you. This doesn't just have to do with clothing and make up. Perfume can also be age appropriate. The young and fruity perfumes targeted for young people would not suit a mature woman. Choose a perfume that stays true to your age but still makes you feel and smell great.

Whether you are choosing a perfume for yourself, or you are picking out a perfume for someone over 40, keep in mind that it should be mature, sophisticated and elegant. This doesn't mean that you should wear the same perfume as your Bubbie. This is simply an entirely different category of perfume than you would choose for a younger lady. These women are in different stages of their lives, and the perfume they wear should match that.

Take Clinique Happy, for example. This is a perfect perfume to get for a 16-year-old, but it is definitely not appropriate for a woman over 40. It is just too juvenile and childlike. It would be almost silly for a 40-year-old woman to wear this kind of fragrance. A better choice would be something like Chanel No. 5 by CoCo Chanel. Now this is a perfume for a woman after 40. I would say the same thing to the 16-year-old - that this perfume would not be appropriate for her. It is so sensual and alluring - you have to be a mature woman in order to wear this scent.

Another example is One Summer by Calvin Klein, or Shock by Calvin Klein. This is also not so appropriate for an older woman. You can just look at the advertisements and see that these perfumes are targeted towards a different generation. They are just too "easy breezy" for an older woman. Instead, try something like Mon Jasmine Noir by Bvlgari, or Truly Pink by Vera Wang. Both of these fragrances are still very fresh and clean, but don't make you smell like a teenager at a frat party.

Notice that fragrances that are more mature and sophisticated are made up of bouquet or musky tones, while the ones more suited for the younger crowd tend to be made up of fruity and citrus notes. You can also tell by the packaging and the bottle. Perfumes geared towards teenager and women in their early 20's will be vibrantly colored, usually with orange, yellow or bright pink. More sophisticated fragrances will be either clear bottles, or light colors like light blue, purple or pink.

Some perfumes are more appropriate for certain ages than others. Choose a perfume that's age appropriate, like Bvlgari perfume at perfumeandcolognemall.com, where there is an enormous variety of perfumes to choose from.
