Buying Blush: Secrets to Getting the Blush That is Right For You
Authored By: Jack Chary
Blush is a staple in most women’s make-up bags. It is the perfect little pick-me-up by adding just the right amount of color to those cheeks. But, buying blush can sometimes be a hassle, especially when you get there and see how many types and colors there are to choose from. Well, here are some great tips that will not only help you choose the right shade, but will help take the hassle out of shopping for it.
1. Know your stuff. There are five types of blush that are most commonly used: powder, cream, tint, shimmer, and gel. Powder blush is by far the most popular type of blush, because it lasts for a long time once its applied. Powder blush also works best on oily skin, because it helps eliminate the shine. Cream blush also lasts quite a while, but it is applied with your fingers. This type of blush is great for dry skin because of its moisturizing quality. Tint blush is fast drying and requires quite the technique to apply it, because once it’s on, it won’t come off until you wash your face. Shimmer blush is great for your night look. It is also used in the form of bronzers, which give a nice sun-kissed look to your face. Gel blush is a lot like tint blush, but it works well with oily skin. Gel and tint blush offer the convenience of adding a touch of color without a lot of heavy make-up.
2. Know your skin type. Different kinds of blush work well or not as well with different skin types. To save yourself the hassle of buying a blush that only makes your oily skin feel oilier, its best to be familiar with you skin type and which ones would work best for you.
3. Get some help. Take your best friend or consult a beauty consultant at the cosmetics counter. Apply several different types and colors of blushes to your skin and seek an honest opinion about which ones do/don’t look good on your face.
4. If you are purchasing your blush alone, then the best way to find the right shade is to lightly pinch your cheeks and see which color appears. After that color appears, you should just try to match that shade with a shade of blush.
5. Like with most cosmetics, being willing to spend a little extra cash may help you nail down the perfect blush that works the best with your skin. If you do fall in love with a blush that is a little pricy, you could call the department store every once in a while to see if they are having a sale or running a special. If they are, then you’ll know, those are the times to stock up!
6. Bronzers can be used just like blush, but usually work best only during the summer months. Knowledge of your skin tone and type still applies to bronzers. For instance, if you have a paler complexion, you should choose a bronzer that is pinker that brown. Brown bronzers may have the tendency to make pale skin look dirty.
