Best Holiday Makeup and Tips - Look Your Best This Holiday Season!

Yes, the matte face look is IN for this winter. We can finally say goodbye to foundation filled with mica, and look forward to a clean complexion that does not shine like a disco ball. In contrast, sparkling shadows are taking main stage for this holiday season. Set against a backdrop of fresh, matte skin, perfectly highlighted eyes will stand out more than ever. This holiday season, your eyes will twinkle like the brightest of stars when encompassed in these gorgeous shimmering tones.

Some of the hottest eye shadow colors for the holiday season are pale sparkling gold, combined with any variation of purple or navy. Browns are also making a comeback – as long as you choose shimmering muted shades, or sparkling dark browns. When creating dramatic, sparkling eyes be sure to keep lips and cheeks subdued. Go with neutral pinks, browns, and nudes & either keep matte or apply a clear gloss. Avoid heavy glittery gloss on the lips.

**Don’t forget to use primer before applying any shadow or liner! If you have dry skin, try Urban Decay’s Primer Potion (www.urbandecay.com). This creamy primer will help shadow stick to the lids for longer wear. If your skin is on the combo to oily side, go with Mattify! Cosmetics Ultra Powder (www.mattifycosmetics.com). Dust it on lids, or entire face if you need an oil controlling primer, prior to makeup application. This helps adhere makeup to the skin, prevents creasing, and also protects the pores.

Let’s start with the purple and gold eye shadow combo. Purple provides a stunning backdrop and contrast to gold. The colors look warm together – but even those who have “cool” skin tones can look amazing in these colors. Create a new variation of the smoky eye using Stila’s Waterproof Smudge Stick Liner (www.stilacosmetics.com) in Purple Tang, along with Mattify! Cosmetic’s Purple Haze (a medium smoky purple) and Fields of Gold (a light glittery gold) (www.mattifycosmetics.com). Apply Purple Haze to the outer corners of lids, barely sweeping to the center of lids for a dramatic deep-set look. Swipe some Fields of Gold onto the center and inner corner of lids to brighten the eyes and provide a fun contrast to the purple portion. For attention-grabbing shine, pat some Fields of Gold under the brow bone as well. Not only do these combos work with nearly any outfit, they are also simple to apply.

Some surprisingly hot color choices for the holidays are variations of shimmering brown. For the perfect brown liner, try the Stila Smudge Stick in Lionfish (Shimmering Brown). Woodland Fairy (dark brown with gold sparkles) or Disco Sunset (a pale nude brown) by Mattify! Cosmetics compliment this liner beautifully. These colors make for an excellent alterative to the typical black used to create a smoky eye. Brown hues are easier to apply, and look warmer and less severe - while still giving your eyes a dramatic edge. Brown tones can be worn with almost any wardrobe colors. To brighten up the eyes, apply some Fields of Gold to the inner corners, center of lids, and/or directly under the brow bone.
