THE HALF KING Celebrates 10-Year-Reign Over New York City Dining Scene

THE HALF KING CELEBRATES TEN YEAR REIGN OVER NEW YORK

THE CITY’S HIPPEST DINING HOTSPOT

New York’s hip Chelsea eatery, The Half King recently celebrated its 10th anniversary— guests joined owners, Nanette Burstein (Film Director, Going the Distance), Scott Anderson, (Novelist, Triage and Moonlight Hotel, as well as War Correspondent) and Sebastian Junger (New York Times Best-Selling Author, WAR & Award-Winning Film Producer, RESTREPO), along with Executive Chef Gregory Baumel and Manager Sinead Duell, to fête the urban joint.

Hitting the New York City dining scene with an eclectic menu, relaxed vibe and spirited setting, The Half King celebrated the milestone, opening its doors to friends and family with an anniversary fête, featuring inventive gourmet bites and cocktails, as well as live music from Morning Star, who played a combination of Irish Traditional Music & Songs that brought guests to their feet.

The Half King exudes a rustic and warm environment comprised of a décor, complete with salvaged wood from a 200-year-old barn. The 30-foot bar encircles the space for drinks, while large wooden booths provide the perfect setting for dinner or cocktails. Adding an even more unique touch, every six weeks, a new photojournalist’s artwork adorns the walls, offering eyepieces while dining on plush, comfy couches. This upbeat eatery is conveniently located alongside The High Line’s newest elevator entrance (opening soon) and showcases an ambient Rock n’ Roll atmosphere complete with a large side walk café and a welcoming back garden. Each week, The Half King hosts a reading series in association with publishers such a Doubleday, Harper Collins and Scribner, as well as Esquire, National Geographic, Vanity Fair and Harper’s magazine.

About the Owners: In addition to owning and operating The Half King, Sebastian Junger recently produced the critically-acclaimed documentary, RESTREPO, based on his book, WAR, which reached No. 2 on The New York Times Best-Sellers List and chronicles his fourteen-month journey with the U.S.’s 173rd Airborne brigade in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley. Having garnered the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, RESTREPO was released summer 2010 in twenty-eight theaters by The National Geographic Channel. Sebastian has been featured on such shows as Comedy Central’s The John Stewart Show, CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360° and HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher. This month, The Half King Co-Owner, Nanette Burstein premiered her directed feature film, Going the Distance, starring Drew Barrymore, Justin Long and Christina Applegate.
