Emmy CHIC: How To Create A Few Of The Red Carpet Hair Styles By Celebrity Hairstylist, Angelo David

Emmy Chic

A New York beauty industry veteran with over twenty years of experience, Celebrity Hairstylist Angelo Davidgives us his expertise on how these Hollywood beauties got their red carpet looks for the 2010 Emmy’s…

Kim Kardashian:

Angelo Says: Kim looked STUNNING! We are used to seeing the brunette bombshell with her hair down, so it was great to see her on the red carpet with an elegant up do— it showed off her face and dress beautifully! Perfect for women with naturally wavy hair and a mix of chic and casual…

1. Apply mousse to damp hair from roots to end to create texture

2. For women with wavy hair, air dry or diffuse it, utilizing natural wave of hair. For straight hair, dry set with hot rollers or use 1.5-2’’ curling iron to manipulate wave into the hair. Don’t overwork, do just enough to create wave!

3. Tease the front to create base, at least 2’’ behind hairline – just past crown area (this will give the look stability to last through evening); leave out section of hair in front before teasing and pull over teased area when done.

4. A styling wax or pomade is also optional, nothing too heavy, just enough to manipulate hair

5. Secure bun then utilize loose tresses at front and twist into bun

6. Apply a finishing medium hold hairspray. Make sure there aren’t any visible pins!

Angelo Says: Eva wore a beautiful wavy up do. Not just for brides, this is a great style for the red carpet! Here are a few easy steps on how to achieve this look:

1. On damp hair, apply Angelo David Foaming Sea Silk Mousse from root to end to avoid any frizz and create volume.

2. Blow dry up ward the root of the hair to create lift.

3. Use a curling iron, create 1 inch pin curls. Let it cool for 30 minutes.

4. Take down all curled sections and tousle together with finger tips to blend.

5. Section out the first inch of the hairline. Take remaining hair and pull your back in a low ponytail using a fabric covered elastic.

6. Fixture curls delicately around the elastic using bobby pins to create a loose bun. For shorter or finer hair types and custom clip in Angelo David Hair Addition can be added to give fullest to the bun.

7. Use bobby pins to set the remaining curls in hairline loosely back into bun. Finish the look with a medium hold hairspray.

Tools and products needed:

Curling Iron (1.5): Recommended Hot Tools Professional

Hairspray: Recommended Redken Force Full 23

Bobby pins: Recommended Scunci No-Slip Grip

Small hair clip: Recommended Scunci Chunky Jaw Clips

Mousse: Recommended Angelo David Foaming Sea Silk Styler

Blow dryer: Recommended Elchin Professional

Lea Michele

Angelo Says: There is a reason why we keep seeing this timeless, sexy tousled look on the red carpet— it works! It was a head turning style for Glee starlet, Lea with just a few easy steps:

1. On damp hair, apply mousse from root to end.

2. Pat tresses with towel, then let air dry your hair to keep the wave in your hair. If your hair is very curly or very straight, you may have to use hot rollers to create these wavy curls.

3. Once hair is dry. Use a curling iron (1.5’’) to create waves throughout directing them at a low elevation alternating away and toward the face. Do not comb through. Let cool for about 30 minute. Mist with a medium hold spray.

4. After cooling, use your fingers to tousle and blend curls.

5. Finish the look and give texture to the ends with a touch of styling wax; for a photo finish look, use a medium hold hairspray and gently soften in place with a boar and bristle hair brush (like the Angelo David Brush!).

Tools/products needed:

Mousse: Recommended Angelo David Foaming Sea Silk Styler

Hot Rollers: Con Air Instant Heat Multi Sized

Curling Iron (1’’): Recommended Hot Tools Professional

Styling Wax: Recommended Redken Water Wax 03

Medium Hold Hairspray: Recommended Redken Workforce 09

Brush: Recommended Large Angelo David Boar and Nylon Mix
