Summer holidays offer some much needed rest and relaxation, whether it is a break from work, a romantic get-away or a chance to spend some valuable time with the family, one thing's for sure: the planning and preparation for the holiday should be kept as stress-free as possible.
Whether you are jetting off to sunnier climes in Europe or going as far-flung as Australia there are a few beach essentials that should be packed regardless of destination. Here we outline some of the beach essentials that you simply shouldn't leave home without.
The harmful effects of the sun are only too well documented which makes it essential to ensure that your skin is properly protected. Wide-brim hats are a stylish way of protecting the delicate face area from the harmful rays of the sun and can also act as a great shade barrier in the blazing heat of the midday sun. Styles that are particularly en vogue this year include elegant wide brim straw hats and wired brim hats in natural shades.
It is fairly obvious, but sunglasses are an absolute must for any beach visit and with such an array of styles out there, there is something to suit everyone. Particularly popular styles include chunky frames with slight vintage styling and the much adored celebrity classic aviator style shades. Regardless of style though it is worth ensuring that they provide adequate UV protection.
A suitable bag for the beach is also essential. Think about the types of things that will need to be carried in the bag, items such as towels/foutas (see below), suncream, sunglasses and a change of swimwear as these can all mount up. Canvas tote bags in vibrant colours can be ideal for the beach or for a more natural style raffia bags are a season favourite. If you are taking various beauty products and sun lotions to the beach (which is another absolute essential), it can also be worth considering a smaller bag specifically to carry these items to ensure no leakages damage any other items in the bag.
Foutas are the equivalent of a Mary Poppins handbag as they serve a multitude of purposes, from being a towel, a wrap-around/sarong to even a chair cover and a picnic blanket and are often a nifty space saver as they are less bulky than traditional beach towels.
Quite often nothing can spell out holiday than walking barefoot along the beach. However, suitable footwear is still an essential. Simple flip flops and sandals are ideal for day time however for added glamour, chic espadrilles with a chunky rope wedge are the ultimate footwear of choice. The key here is choosing an espadrille with a small enough wedge to be casual enough for the daytime but can take you straight from the beach to the cocktail bar. If in doubt, it can be worth popping a pair of flip-flops or sandals into the beach bag as a back up.
Packing for the beach can be a daunting task, but a few simple considerations such as those above can ensure that your beach holiday remains hassle free, leaving you to enjoy each and every moment.
