Lets face it, many of us don't wear nearly half of the clothes we have in our closets. In fact, as much as 80%! Have you ever stopped and asked yourself why? Well, if you're still unsure, there are usually three categories these unworn clothes fall into. By addressing the part of your wardrobe that falls into any of these categories, you can shrink that 80% by shopping in your closet!

I say "shopping in your closet" because after you haven't worn something for so long, it feels like it's brand new again. You can come up with countless new outfits, though you need to be able to look at your wardrobe with fresh eyes. Here are three reasons some of your clothing is going unworn and how to change that by refreshing what you already have so you too can shop in your closet:

Scenario #1

The fit just isn't right

What to do: tailoring. It's a simple and painless process and it's also very inexpensive. Tailors can fix anything from shortening long sleeve shirts and dresses, to taking a garment in or out to fit your body better. This is also good to remember if you've recently lost weight. Realistically, there is probably a tailor within 10 minutes of where you live!

Scenario #2

You have no clue what to wear with it

What to do: keep that item in the back of your mind at all times and be observant. It will only be a matter of time before you see that very same style worn by someone else and that's when you start getting ideas. It could be someone on the street, or someone on television, whatever the case, keep your eyes open!

It may also be the case that this particular item is still like new and quite fashionable however, if it's not exactly "in" at the moment, if so, wait. Certain classic styles come and go all the time so saving these items could save you from having to buy them over again a few seasons later.

Scenario #3

You're tired of wearing it the same way

What to do: for this scenario I also suggest you keep your eyes open to the way others are wearing that particular style. You can also gain inspiration for magazines that feature up-to-date fashion trends every month.

Shopping in your closet is fun and easy. By rediscovering and refreshing the items in your closet that you never wear, you can also rediscover a new look without spending a bunch of money.
