v NO-FUSS STYLES
A classic ponytail or simple chignon is always in style and chicly complements any holiday look— blow-dry hair straight and brush back the front; next, gather all your hair at the middle of your crown and tie with a simple elastic band; for the ponytail, wrap a few strands around the band and pin beneath the ponytail; for the chignon, twist ponytail and wrap around the base, placing a few bobby pins to keep in place; apply some light hairspray to take fly-aways.
For a sexy un-done look, once hair is dry, curl with an iron or hot rollers. Run fingers through your locks, loosening the curls. Et voila! You have an alluring, Brigitte Bardot-esque tussled look that’s full of volume. Later in the evening, if you’re hot and sweaty from dancing and mingling, twist hair and pin up with just a few bobby pins that match the color of your hair for a messy bun.
Want an easy way to makeover your day-to-day look? Clip-on extensions will give you instant length and volume, transforming your look from safe to siren.
v MAINTAIN YOUR MANE
To keep your style and volumes in place throughout the evening, backcomb at the roots for volume before styling your locks at the start of the night and use hairspray to hold. Stay away from oily styling products, as it weighs down hair and flattens your look— instead, apply small amounts of silicone-based products, which will make your hair shine while maintaining its style.
v LESS IS CHICER
When it comes to hair accessories, simpler is better. Your hair is the ultimate accessory, and when beautifully done, you don’t need all of that overdone glitz n’ glam that takes away from your hairstyle and overall look for the evening. Want just a touch of sparkle? Try a chicly adorned pin.
ABOUT AMOY PITTERS:
A New York beauty industry veteran, Amoy Pitters has had a passion – and natural talent – for the worlds of hair, beauty and fashion since the start of her career. Mentored by industry icon, Odile Gilbert – and featured in the famed work Her Style – Amoy launched her impressive career as a sought-after hair stylist in the fashion industry, booking her career-first fashion show in Paris, styling the locks of the runway models for the Christian Dior couture collection in January 1998. There, recognizing her unique skill set, Amoy was asked by the show’s production team to style the house’s legendary designer John Galliano’s own hair for his final bow. Soon after, Galliano himself began requesting Amoy as his personal hairstylist. Fashion maven Donatella Versace was next in line, after taking notice of Galliano’s newly styled locks. From there, Amoy was in-demand worldwide, styling hair for editorials and fashion shows, and transforming the looks of supermodels, Hollywood starlets, iconic fashion designers, Grammy award-wining musicians and, of course, Amoy’s everyday clients at her modest East Village salon in New York City. Today, her impressive clientele includes Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington, Mary J. Blige, Joy Bryant, Selita Ebanks and Maggie Riser.
Look out for Amoy in early 2010, when she opens the doors of her full-service beauty salon in Manhattan’s Upper East Side— details to follow. For further information about Amoy, please visit www.amoysbeauty.com.
